Cecilia Scott
(b. 1708, Scott's Hall, Smeeth, Kent, England – d. 1785, England )
Gender: F
Cecilia Scott was the second daughter of George Scott (1673-1728) and Cecilia Dering (1682-1764) of Scott’s Hall in Kent. In 1764 she presented the living of Denton to Rev William Robinson, Montagu’s brother, and they resided at Denton Court. After her death, the living went under the terms of her will to her nephew Thomas Scott, and the Robinsons were obliged to move to Burghley in Berkshire. After Morris Robinson’s death in 1777, it was discovered that he had borrowed money from her against a mortgage over his house in London, which considerably reduced the value of his estate. Mrs Scott’s insistence that her money should be repaid was a cause of great resentment to Morris’s widow, Jane Greenland.
