Meadows was the eldest son of the diplomat Sir Philip Meadowes (1672-1757) and his wife Dorothy, daughter of Edward Boscawen (1628-1685), grandfather of Admiral Edward Boscawen. On 2nd June 1742 he married Jemima Montagu, daughter of Charles Montagu and sister of Edward Montagu. He became an MP, Knight Marshal of the King’s Household and Deputy Ranger of Windsor Great Park. He was renowned for his horsemanship.
