John Rogers was a cousin of Edward Montagu. On his death in 1752, Edward inherited one-third of all his properties in Northumberland, including the coal mines at Denton and elsewhere, and he subsequently purchased a further one-third from his cousin Anthony Isaacson, who was another of John Rogers’ heirs. These formed the basis for the Montagus’ wealth. See Rogers Family Tree.
