Jane née Maxwell, Duchess of Gordon (1749-1812), a close friend of JB, see ODNB. Together with her husband, Alexander Gordon, 4th Duke of Gordon (1743-1827), they had seven children including five daughters. At the time of this letter, four daughters had been born: Lady Louisa Gordon (1776-1850), Lady Charlotte Gordon (1768-1842), Lady Madelina Gordon (1772-1847) and Lady Susan Gordon (1774-1828). Her fifth daughter, Lady Georgiana Gordon (1781-1853), was born the following year.
