George Spencer (1758-1804), the eldest son of Georgiana Spencer, was styled Lord Althorp from 1765-1783. He succeeded to the title of Earl Spencer on the death of his father in 1783. He was a Whig politician and served under William Pitt the Younger as Lord Privy Seal and First Lord of the Admiralty, and was later Home Secretary.
