Bethia D’Aeth (1717-1797) was one of twelve children of Sir Thomas and Lady Elizabeth D’Aeth, née Narborough (1682-1721). She married Herbert Palmer (d.1760), natural son of Sir Thomas Palmer, Bart, and following his death married Lt-Col John Cosnan (1723-1778); she is thereafter referred to in the correspondence as Mrs Cosnan. Col. Cosnan’s death is referred to in Carter’s letter to Montagu of July 27, 1778. Bethia continued to reside at Wingham until her death.
