Sarah Stanley, daughter of George and Sarah Stanley, married Christopher D’Oyly, an Under-Secretary in the Colonial Department, in December 1765. He had trained as a barrister, but retired from practice on inheriting an estate in Walton-on-Thames in 1754. Sarah Stanley and her daughters were close friends of Lord Lyttelton [Elizabeth Montagu, Queen of the Blues, Vol 2, pp186-7].
