Richard Howe (1726-1799) was Admiral of the Fleet during the Seven Years War and the French Revolutionary Wars. He became the 4th Viscount Howe after the death of his brother George Howe (c.1725-1758), who was a Brigadier-General in the British army and was killed during the attempt to capture Fort Carillon from the French; he was awarded an earldom as the 1st Earl Howe.
